The Pelvic Floor

The Pelvic floor muscles are the layer of muscles that stretch from the tailbone in the back, to the pubic bone in the front. These muscles support the pelvic organs. They work with the deep abdominal muscles, back, and diaphragm to support the spine and regulate pressure inside the abdomen.

Pelvic floor dysfunction can result in symptoms such as:

  • Urinary urgency, frequency, hesitancy, stopping and starting of urine stream, painful urination, or incomplete emptying

  • Constipation, straining, pain with bowel movements

  • Unexplained pain in the low back, pelvic region, genital area, or rectum

  • Pain during or after intercourse, orgasm, or sexual stimulation

  • Uncoordinated muscle contractions causing the pelvic floor muscles to spasm

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, you may benefit from Pelvic Floor Therapy.
